Outer Islands Teaching and Learning Collaborative
This solution addresses isolation of rural, one-room, island schools in New England, North America for teachers, students, and parents
Problem Description
New teachers coming into island schools feel overwhelmed and isolated, with multiple students in various grades and responsible for teaching all subjects. The TLC allows teachers to share resources with each other, plan collaboratively, and give support. Students gain access to more classmates through in-events and technology that creates larger virtual classrooms. The schools in these towns can have as few as one, four, or five students, yet their presence is vital to the island towns remaining as year-round communities rather than simply the location of summer homes. The TLC aims to make those schools more vibrant, effective, and sustainable.Building Blocks
